Hummingbird or known as “Kolibri” in Indonesian, is the tiniest bird in the world (approximately between 2 – 20 grams). These birds are the only birds that can fly both forward and backwards. Also, they hover in mid air, fly sideways and even upside down. They fly on average of 25-30 miles per hour and dive up to 60 miles per hour. Their wings will beat about 70 times per second and up to 200 times per second while diving. So, even if they are tiny in size, these birds are actually very special.

These buddies live by drinking nectar that is a sweet liquid produced by flowers as food to animals that will benefit these flowers. Hummingbirds are able to assess the amount of sugar they consume. They will reject flowers with less than 10% of sugar and contrarily prefer those with higher sugar content. Unfortunately, nectar has a poor source of nutrients and hence these birds have to prey on insects around those flowers to meet their need for protein, vitamins and other useful minerals.
